Explanation of Rider Levels

Beginners who are Just Starting will learn about the nature of the horse, working safely around horses, grooming and saddling the lesson horse and riding on their own with confidence and skill.

Colts should have some experience  and must demonstrate that they can sit saddle comfortably; perform an emergency one rein stop; hold & adjust reins; start, stop & turn horse at a walk; all on Winning Ways school horses.

Beginners & Colts may be placed together, depending upon age.

Novices ride a full hour on horseback therefore riders must prepare their horses before the class starts. Students must be able to prepare their mount with minimal assistance, demonstrate that they can perform an emergency one rein stop; hold & adjust reins; start, stop & turn horse at a walk and trot comfortably; and be willing to learn to canter/lope during their lessons.

Intermediates ride a full hour on horseback therefore riders prepare their horses before their class. Students must be able to tack and untack their mount, demonstrate that they can perform an emergency one rein stop; hold & adjust reins; start, stop & turn horse at a walk, trot and canter/lope.
